The laboratory currently employs scientific collaborators who design coordinate and prepare studies within the research parameters of the laboratory with the main research coordinator Prof. Kakia Petinou.

Prof. Kakia Petinou – Professor and Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Speech Pathology Program, Cyprus University of Technology
Kakia Petinou was born and raised in Agios Dometios, Nicosia, and graduated with distinction from the Pancyprian Kykkos Gymnasium for girls. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s in Education degree in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Georgia, USA, as well as a PhD from City University of New York Graduate Center, NY, USA which focused on speech and hearing sciences. She has taught as a Lecturer in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders of the University of Yeshiva, in the School of Health Sciences of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA, and as a Visiting Lecturer in the University of Cyprus and the European University of Cyprus. She spent time as a research associate in the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (Department of Clinical Genetics) and she has been the research co-ordinator of several funded research projects in Cyprus and Europe. She is a member of the International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association, of the Society for Research in Child Development and of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (ΙΑLP). She is also a registered member of the Speech and Language Pathologists in Cyprus. Her research work has been published in several scientific journals, while she has given talks in various international conferences. Her research interests focus on the characteristics of early language development and language delay, aiming at the identification of early diagnostic features of chronic language impairment (special language impairment, developmental apraxia, autistic spectrum disorders), as well as the relationship between phonological ability and semantic variability. She is also interested in the development of valid and effective diagnostic tools for the identification of communication problems in pediatric populations, ultimately aiming at intervention and rehabilitation.

Dr. Elena Theodorou PhD, MSc, BSc, Registered Speech Language Pathologist
Elena Theodorou is an assistant professor in the Rehabilitation Sciences Department of the Host Organization. She holds a Bachelor degree in Speech Therapy from Technological Institute of Patras in Greece and a Master in Science in Language and Communication Impairment in Children form Sheffield University in U.K. Her research areas are the diagnosis of language impairment, language acquisition in typical and atypical populations and Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Dr. Eliada Pampoulou PhD, MSc, BSc, Registered Speech Language Pathologist
Dr. Eliada Pampoulou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Cyprus University of Technology. She is a Speech and Language Therapist and Assistive Technology Specialist. Her research activities have been focused on a relatively novel area in Cyprus, that of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Specifically, her research has be concerned with: graphic symbols; AAC assessment; support provided to people with complex communication needs by caregivers; as well as AAC systems’ acceptance and abandonment. All research activities have been motivated by her desire to improve the services provided to people with complex communication needs, thus improving their quality of life.

Loukia Taxitari D.Phil., M.Phil., Ba
Loukia Taxitari is a psycho-linguist specializing in language acquisition, especially early lexical and semantic development. She is a Research Associate in Theralab doing work on semantic/lexical development of typically developing children and late talkers, as well as on the interface between lexical and phonological development.

Dr. Christina Nicole Giannikas, PhD, MA, BA, CELTA, Certificate in Online Training, Certificate in Creative Writing
Dr. Giannikas holds a PhD in the field of Applied Linguistics. She is an Education & Research Consultant, an Applied Linguist, a Teacher Trainer, an Online Tutor/Trainer, an EAP/ESP Instructor, Researcher, Materials writer and Editor. She has been working in the field of language education for over 15 years. She is the founder of CG Education & Research Consultancy and also works in Higher Education where she lectures courses in Applied Linguistics. Dr. Giannikas has a strong research record in the field and has published in peer-reviewed academic journals, edited volumes, newsletters and conference proceedings.

Dr. Spyros Armostis – PhD, MPhil, BA
Spyros Armostis is a Lecturer in Linguistics at the Department of English Studies, University of Cyprus. He holds an MPhil and PhD in Linguistics (Phonetics) from the University of Cambridge and a BA in Classics from the University of Cyprus. His publications lie mainly in the fields of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, and clinical linguistics. His research activities have also expanded to other areas, such as grapholinguistics, language documentation and revitalisation, second language acquisition, and pragmatics.

Dr. Kyriaki Kyriakou – SLP.D., CCC-SLP, Registered Speech and Language Therapist
Kyriaki Kyriakou holds a doctoral degree in Speech Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University, FL, USA with a focus in Voice Disorders and Augmentative Alternative Communication. She currently works as a Research Collaborator in a research laboratory of Gallaudet University since 2013 and Therapo Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology since 2016. Her clinical and research interests are in the areas of voice disorders, swallowing disorders, fluency disorders and augmentative alternative communication.

Dr. Ioannis Phinikettos – PhD, MSc και BSc
Dr. Phinikettos holds a PhD in statistics from Imperial College London in 2012. He currently works as a statistics research assistant at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Cyprus University of Technology and as a mathematician in public secondary education. His current areas of research interest are statistical methods in communication and voice disorders.

Despo Minaidou – M.S., CCC-SLP Registered Speech Language Pathologist
Despo Minaidou is a registered Speech Language Pathologist from Nicosia. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Long Island University and a Master of Science from The Pennsylvania State University, USA. She currently works at the Rehabilitation Sciences Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of CUT as a Special Teaching Staff.

Christodoulos Monogios
Christodoulos Monogios holds a BSc in Psychology and a higher diploma of education in Psychology from the University of Derby. He currently works as a trainees in different institutes that focus on the forensic setting of psychology. He has also received training in the use of psychometric tools and assists with executing experimental paradigms on children with delayed language development.

Dr. Kyriakos Antoniou-PhD
Kyriakos Antoniou holds a BA in Greek Literature (with a specialisation in Linguistics) from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) and an MA in Linguistics from University College London (UK). In 2015, he obtained a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (with a focus on psycholinguistics) from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Cyprus University of Technology, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cyprus as part of a two-year Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowship from the European Commission.

Speech-Language-Clinician & Certified Literacy Instructor
Dr. Yvette Hus is an educators’ instructor in Language Stimulation and Literacy tutor training for linguistically diverse communities. Yvette is an IALP Member and Deputy Chair of the Autism Spectrum Disorders committee. She has published research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, a chapter on literacy and metalinguistic issues of multilingual children with speech disorders.

Dr. Maria Christopoulou- Ph.D., MOP, SLP, CSS
Maria Christopoulou is an assistant professor at the School of Health and Sciences, Communication Disorders Department, at European University Cyprus and the founder and Director of the Speech, Language, Hearing Clinic of the university. Prof. Christopoulou has earned BA, MSc, PhD. in communication disorders, administration in education and management of programs in leadership, with a 25 year background in education/special education for children under 12 years of age directing a unique private school.

Dr. Katandria Love Johnson- DrPH, MS, MA, CCC-SLP, CAS, CPH, CPCRT, IN, LM
Dr. KL Johnson is a multi-lingual, nationally certified speech-language pathologist, linguist, certified autism specialist, certified public health researcher, certified in the therapy of vital stim and cognitive rehabilitation, integrative nutrition and lifestyle medicine. She is the founder of Dr. Love’s Healthcare, a non-profit helping multicultural families gain continuity and coordination of care for pediatric rehab therapies as well as Dr. Love’s Integrative Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine, PLLC helping families live healthier lives.

Dr. Li-Rong Lilly Cheng
Dr. Li-Rong Lilly Cheng served as Professor in the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Executive Director of Chinese Cultural Center at San Diego State University. She is the past chair of the Multicultural Issues Board for the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and served as chair of Education Committee for the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) and is the immediate past President of IALP. She is a Fellow of ASHA and received the Honors of ASHA (the highest honor) in 2013.
She was selected by ABC as one of 25 most influential women in the history of San Diego. Professor Cheng was the past President of the Phi Beta Delta Chapter at SDSU. In 2015, Dr. Cheng was giving an Honor by the Asian Pacific Association of Speech Language and Hearing for her four decades of research and services to the communicatively challenged populations. She has written many books and research articles on this topic.

Skye Nandi Adams – MSc, BSc, Registered Speech Language Pathologist
Skye Nandi Adams is a lecturer in the Department of Speech Language Pathology at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Cape Town and an MSc in Language Development from the University College London (UK). She is currently registered for her PhD focusing on an exploration of mealtimes for families with children with ASD in Gauteng, South Africa.

Natalie Neubauer-Ed.D., CCC-SLP
Dr. Natalie Neubauer is Assistant Dean for Undergraduate and Clinical Education in the School of Health and Medical Sciences at Seton Hall University. She oversees undergraduate dual degree students in the health science programs. She has taught diagnostics and clinical methods courses and has developed the clinical education curriculum for the master of speech-language pathology program. Her research interests include pediatric feeding, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Interprofessional education, clinical supervision, and innovative teaching modalities. She is published and has received grant funding for multiple projects.
